Academic Council

Purpose

Academic Council (AC) will make recommendations on all policies as outlined in UHCL MAP 01.A.01. The AC will make final recommendations to the provost on all academic matters including but not limited to: 

  • Enrollment and admissions
  • Scholarships
  • Catalog revisions
  • Curriculum issues
  • Degree requirements 
  • SACSCOC accreditation

Committee Structure

The Academic Council shall have representatives from the academic administration, the Council of Professors, the Council of Chairs and Faculty Senate, and be chaired by the Provost.  The Academic Council voting membership is as follows:

  • Senior Vice President for Academic Affairs and Provost*
  • Vice Provost 
  • Associate Provost for Research and Sponsored Programs
  • Sr. Associate Vice President for Information Technology
  • Associate Vice President for Student Success
  • Academic Deans (4)
  • Faculty Senate (8)
  • Representative from the Council of Professors (1)
  • Representative from the Council of Chairs (1)

*The Provost is the only officer and chair of Academic Council. Since the charge of Academic Council is to make recommendations to the Provost, the Provost will not serve as a voting member.

Amendments to the Bylaws require two-thirds (12) of voting membership approval.

Meeting Schedule

Meetings are held once a month on the second Thursday of the month from 2-3:30 p.m. No meetings are held in December, June, July, and August, unless special called.
