Online Consultations

The Writing Center offers FREE appointment and drop-in consultations with peer writing consultants over Microsoft Teams. In these sessions, you can have a conversation with your consultant about your writing, whether you're just getting started, or you're editing your final draft.

Face-to-Face Consultations

In addition to online writing consultations, the Writing Center has face-to-face appointments and drop-ins available at the Clear Lake campus on the second floor of the Student Services and Classroom Building.

We ask that you bring two copies of any documents you would like to share with your consultant for a face-to-face session. Social distancing will be required at all times; masks are encouraged.

Drop-off Appointments

If you choose a drop-off appointment, you will receive a short video of a writing consultant giving you feedback on your paper. Attach up to 5 pages at the bottom of the appointment form, and by the end of the business day, you will receive an email through your UHCL account that contains a link to the video feedback.

Long-Term Projects

Recurring appointments are available for writers who have a long-term writing project (e.g. thesis, dissertation, semester-long research project) and would like to work with a particular consultant based on their familiarity with the project. Lengthy writing assignments often require planning, research and writing throughout a semester. Thus, we offer plans of study where you may:

• Look ahead to plan an entire semester's writing.
• Set up recurring appointments on a weekly or biweekly basis with the same tutor for consistent progress.
