Writing Center Vision and Mission
The Writing Center's vision is to create and sustain a culture of writing among the students, faculty, staff, and alumni of the University of Houston-Clear Lake.
The Writing Center's mission is to support students, faculty, staff, and alumni in reading, writing, and researching a wide variety of texts. The Writing Center provides this support primarily through one-on-one writing consultations, workshop series, and print and online resources. It also manages a program of intensive training and ongoing professional development for its staff, and collaborates with other stakeholders to facilitate student success in the creation, study, and use of written artifacts and literate practices.
The Writing Center accomplishes this mission through the following goals:
- Sponsoring writing: Creating opportunities for writers to engage in literate practice.
- Studying writing: Researching written artifacts and literate practices used in academic, public, and professional environments.
- Celebrating writing: Acknowledging instances of successful writing, both at UHCL and in the wider academic, public, and professional spheres.
- Mentoring writers: Using interactive, adaptive and inclusive techniques to help writers of all interests and skill levels to accomplish their goals.
