New Faculty Orientation
August 13-14, 2024
UHCL's Center for Faculty Development will host New Faculty Orientation August 13-14, 2024. During these two days, you will receive crucial information that will help ease your transition to the university. New Faculty Checklist
All new faculty coming to the University of Houston-Clear Lake will need to complete the required onboarding tasks. The table below is a general overview that will provide you with more information and contacts.
In addition to the various forms provided by Human Resources; your College should provide you with the following:
- Office (and an available move-in date)
- Computer
- Phone
- Information on selecting textbooks for your classes
- Information on specific syllabi requirements
- Information on any safety training, if needed (e.g., you are working in a laboratory)

Complete Onboarding Tasks in Taleo |
Log into Taleo to complete your onboarding tasks. This will ensure you get a UH email address and employee ID and that you are set up in our payroll system. Please note that the I-9 task will reflect an incomplete status. That’s ok! You will complete your I-9 by visiting Human Resources on Day 1 of orientation or when you are on campus. All other tasks should show completed in Taleo. Learn more in the "How to Access Taleo" guide. |

Provide Transcript to University |
Please mail or email your official transcript showing the award date of your relevant terminal degree to: Office of the Provost, 2700 Bay Area Boulevard, Suite B2525, Houston, Texas, 77058 or to: provost@uhcl.edu. |

Computer Account and Email |
Once your Employee ID number has been assigned, you can electronically get your UHCL computer account by filling our the UHCL Account Pickup & Policy Agreement. |

I-9 Employment Verification |
I-9 Employment verification must be completed within 3 days of the hire date, which is typically September 1st, in the Human Resources Office (Bayou 2537). View the I-9 form and instructions. |

Canvas Onboarding |
Contact OIT’s Instructional Design and Technology (IDT) team to enroll in online Canvas
training, self-report as an experienced and self-sufficient Canvas user, and/or schedule
a Canvas onboarding appointment with your designated instructional designer. |

Office and/or Lab Keys |
Most colleges will ask you to submit an Access Request Form for your office and/or lab. Once you know the office/lab number a request can be submitted to locksmith@uhcl.edu. Note: Most offices will require 2 keys (one for the office and one for the office suite). Naming the security delegate for your area is required on all access requests. |

RSVP for New Faculty Orientation |
New Faculty Orientation will be held on the Clear Lake campus Tuesday and Wednesday, August 13-14, 2024, from 8:30-5:00. Please fill out the New Faculty Orientation RSVP Form as soon as possible. |

Parking Permit |
Employees are required to have a parking permit for the UHCL and Pearland campuses. Parking is enforced 24/7. Vehicles without a permit are subject to ticketing. Information about parking can be located on the UHCL Parking and Transportation website. Upon accepting your position electronically, a temporary parking code was provided in your onboarding email. Texas Medical Center (TMC) Faculty Parking is available at the Texas Children's Hospital
garage at 6624 Fannin Tower. Please use unreserved spaces and not valet parking. Plan
to pay for parking, save your receipts, and periodically request reimbursement by
having your administrative support use the following cost center: 3056-C0159-I0535-NA
[speed type 15962]. |

Hawk Card |
Official ID Cards will provide access to various services and buildings on campus. You may initiate the creation of your Hawk Card after your first day of employment. Information can be found on the Hawk Card webpage or in the folder provided by Human Resources. |

New Hire training must be completed within 30 days of your hire date. Information on New Hire Training can be found in the information provided by Human Resources. |

Human Resources has also provided information about selecting benefits. This must be completed within 30 days of your hire date. More information can be found on the Benefits webpage. |

Faculty have a choice on their retirement plan. Information on plans has been provided by Human Resources and must be completed within 90 days of your hire date. More information can be found on the Retirement webpage. |

Each faculty member has a webpage that provides biographical information. To establish this page, please fill our a MarCom Work Request Form. Select that you need assistance from the Web Team. Headshot opportunities will be made available to faculty throughout the year. For upcoming dates and times, please visit the MarComm website or contact their office. |

Consulting & Paid Professional Services |
Services performed outside of UHCL duties must be reported annually and receive University approval. View the Outside Activities Form and the Outside Activities/Interests Disclosures Policy (SAM 02.A.08) for more information. |

Internal Grant Opportunity |
Faculty Research and Support Funds (FRSF) is offered through the Office of Research & Sponsored Programs (ORSP). A university-wide call for internal grants on research activities will be sent in the Fall and Spring semesters. Dean’s approval is required for all submissions. Additional information on internal grants can be located on the Faculty Research Support Funds webpage. Note: FRSF is different from FDSF (Faculty Development Support Funds) offered through the colleges. |

Studies involving human participants require CITI (Collaborative Institutional Training Institute) certification. For more information on steps and requirements visit the Office of Research and Sponsored Programs website. Note: CITI training is free to all UHCL faculty. |
