National Coastal Condition Assessment
Purpose/Objectives
To better address questions about the nation's coastal resources, the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) is facilitating a multi-agency effort called the National Coastal Condition Assessment (NCCA). The Environmental Institute of Houston (EIH) is contracted to complete the national survey for all sites in Texas in summer 2025.
Study Area
Coastal waters of the state of Texas
Project Period
2025
Description
In summer 2025, EIH will sample a total of 58 sites in the bays, estuaries, and nearshore waters along the Texas Gulf Coast. This sampling is part of the NCCA, a probabilistic survey designed and implemented by the EPA. Condition indicators sampled include water quality, sediment, benthic macroinvertebrates, and fish. EIH has previously participated in the 2020 NCCA (138 sites), the 2015 NCCA (55 sites), and the 2010 NCCA (53 sites).
