About the Program

We prepare future counselors to be culturally competent to serve diverse populations. Our program emphasizes a holistic and strengths-based approach for counseling people with life challenges. The students and faculty in our program are engaged in serving our community. 

Our bachelor's program will make you employment eligible for immediately after graduation.

Our master's programs are designed to engage the working, family-oriented student.  Most students only come to campus once a week to take evening coursework. We have a 100% pass rate on certification and licensure exams testifying the abilities of our students.

Bachelor of Science in Addictions Counseling

 Addictions counselors play an integral role in supporting individuals addicted to drugs or alcohol through the stages of the recovery process. With your Bachelor of Science in Addictions Counseling from University of Houston-Clear Lake, you’ll empower people to address the emotional issues that underlie substance use disorders and resolve personal challenges in a healthy manner.

Master of Science in Clinical Mental Health Counseling

The M.S. in Counseling with Clinical Mental Health Counseling Concentration from University of Houston-Clear Lake is designed for students interested in becoming professional counselors, and provides students with the knowledge and skills necessary for counseling clients experiencing a variety of psychological, social, behavioral and emotional issues.

Master of Science in Counseling with School Counselor Certification Concentration

Serve the needs of students and their families by receiving the Master of Science in Counseling with School Counselor Certification through University of Houston-Clear Lake’s College of Education.

 Counseling M.S. with School Counselor Certification

Our degrees prepare students:

  • To become credentialed as a Licensed Professional Counselor (LPC), a Licensed Chemical Dependency Counselor (LCDC), or a Certified School Counselor (CSC).
  • To provide effective services to children, adolescents, individual adults, couples, and families.
  • For employment at schools, hospitals, private practice, or mental health agencies.
