Canvas Student Support
Updated May 6, 2024
Welcome to the UHCL's Student Canvas Support Page! All UHCL classes use Canvas as the university's learning management system (LMS). Blackboard will be removed from student, faculty, and staff access on June 3, 2024.
We understand that navigating a new learning management system can be stressful; however, UHCL's Office of Information Technology has staff and resources to assist you. From troubleshooting technical issues to providing step-by-step guides, we're committed to empowering you on your educational journey. So, let's dive in and explore the vast possibilities that Canvas offers, ensuring you have all the tools you need to succeed!
How Do I Access Canvas?
All students should have access to UHCL's Canvas system through go.uhcl.edu. Once you log into go.uhcl.edu, you should see a Canvas tile on which you can click to access the new system.
IMPORTANT! Students cannot access courses for a new semester until 2 calendar days before the official first day of the semester. For example, in SU24, the first day of classes for the May Mini Session classes is Monday, May 13, 2024. Students will have access to Canvas shells for those classes on Sunday, May 11, 2024. SU24 8W and 5W1 courses (both of which begin on Monday, June 3, 2024) will be available to students in Canvas on Saturday, June 1, 2024.
I Logged Into go.uhcl.edu, but I Don't See a Canvas Tile. What's Wrong?
If you've registered for a class at least 2 days earlier but you cannot see the Canvas tile, first try accessing Canvas at uhcl.instructure.com.
If you are not able to log in from that URL, please contact the OIT Support Center, either at SupportCenter@uhcl.edu or (281) 283-2828. A Support Center specialist will gather your information (e.g., name, UHCL student ID#, Canvas course in which you're enrolled) and create a help ticket. That ticket will be assigned to a member of OIT's Technology Learning Services team, who will look into the problem and follow up with you in the order in which your ticket is received.
Online Canvas Training Course (Passport to Canvas)
All UHCL students are invited to self-enroll in the online self-paced training, Passport to Canvas (Student Training). Whether you've used Canvas before or are new to this system, we recommend that all UHCL learners make time to complete this self-paced and information-packed training. Use the hyperlink below to self-enroll in the Passport to Canvas training!

OIT Support Center
In addition to Canvas-related assistance, the OIT Support Center should be your go-to resource for questions and technical assistance relating to most UHCL-provided computer hardware and software. You can contact the OIT Support Center by email at SupportCenter@uhcl.edu or by telephone at (281) 283-2828. For current operating hours, please visit the Office of Information Technology web page.
One system for which OIT is unable to provide end-user support is e-Services (also sometimes referred to as PeopleSoft). All E-Services related questions and issues are handled by staff in UHCL's Welcome Center. You can contact their office by email at WelcomeCenter@uhcl.edu or by telephone at (281) 283-2722.
