Summer Engagement Academy (S.E.A) is a four-week academic program for first time-in-college students. The program is designed to help freshmen strengthen their academic skills, integrate socially, and transition smoothly from high school to university life. The program provides students with the opportunity to become acclimated to the collegiate experience while engaging in rewarding academic and social activities.
Who should apply to participate in the program?
High school seniors graduating in the current year or the previous year. First time-in-college student.
What tests do I need to complete for the program?
TSI Assessment is required unless other documentation is supported to qualify for exemption.
How long is the program?
The program is 4 weeks long and starts on Monday, July 7, 2025, and ends on Saturday, August 2, 2025. The program is Monday through Friday.
What is the cost of the program?
While the SEA program provides support in many areas, it does not cover tuition. However, students have options! You're encouraged to explore financial aid and scholarship opportunities to help cover the cost of tuition.
To be considered for financial aid, you can submit a FAFSA or TASFA application for the year 2024–2025 (Summer 2025). UHCL’s school code is 011711. Note: Submitting a financial aid application is encouraged but not required to participate in the program.
What support services are provided in the program?

Will I earn college credit for participating in the program?
Yes! Students who successfully complete the Summer Engagement Academy will earn credit hours toward their degree.
Does the program offer parking?
UHCL has a summer parking permit for purchase at the expense of the participant.
Does the program provide housing for Summer Engagement Academy participants?
Yes! The program does provide housing, and meal plans for free for participants who live on campus. Students will live on campus for four weeks during the summer II session. Students can opt out, but we highly encourage students to stay at the dorms to receive the full experience of community and connection of dorm life.

What time do participants need to return to the dorms?
If the program participants leave they must return to campus on Sundays by 9pm to the dorms.
Are meals provided during the program?
Program participants will receive meal plans for free while living on campus in the dorms.
What happens if I miss a day of the program?
Attendance is critical for success. If you have an unavoidable conflict, please communicate
with program staff in advance.
