Get Help to Quit Smoking

We encourage people to explore smoking-cessation resources.

Many resources are free, and based on decades of knowledge and experience. Programs may be in-person or online. Most offer support with phone, chat and various apps:

  1. Smokefree.gov
    An extensive free resource supported by the tobacco settlement funds distributed to individual states. You can explore based on status (vet, woman, teen, Spanish-speaking, or 60+) and areas related to becoming smoke-free.

    Tools and Tips includes quit methods, free resources, and instant help with Smokefree apps, and speak with and expert.

  2. QuitNow Texas
    An online smoking-cessation program based on 25 years of research and experience, and “The 4 Essential Practices to Quit for Life”. 

  3.  Freedom from Smoking® Plus
    View video. Evidenced-based on-line program from the American Lung Association consists of 9 sessions over 6 weeks with phone and chat support. In-person clinics are another American Lung Association option.

  4. Become an Ex
    The EX plan teaches you how to live life without cigarettes in 3 steps. This free program, developed in collaboration with the Mayo Clinic, is endorsed by the National Alliance for Tobacco Cessation.

  5. Tobacco Treatment Program
    MD Anderson Cancer Center's program offers in-person, phone, and web-cam counseling, in addition to medication free of charge to MD Anderson cancer patients who use tobacco or recently quit.

  6. BeTobaccoFree.gov
    The U.S. Department of Health and Human Services (HHS)’s comprehensive website providing one-stop access to the most up-to-date tobacco-related information from its agencies. BeTobaccoFree includes general information on tobacco, federal and state laws and policies, health statistics, and evidence-based methods on how to quit.
