Minor Membership and Access
The Recreation and Wellness Center welcomes families, and we often host family-friendly events. The following guidelines help all patrons enjoy our facilities safely.
Minors are defined as anyone under the age of 18. The following policies will be enforced strictly
- A parent or legal guardian must have and maintain an active RWC membership.
- A parent or legal guardian must accompany the minor during membership purchase. Photo ID verification and proof of relationship may be requested.
- A parent or legal guardian must sign a consent form in addition to a waiver on behalf of the minor.
- Parents, legal guardians, or minors found in violation of these policies are subject to suspension or loss of membership privileges.
- Minors will not be able to access the facility using another member's guest pass.
- Minors will not be given guest passes with their membership purchase.
- Day Passes will not be sold to Minors.
Age 16-17
Minors age 16-17 can purchase full Rec Center memberships, with some additional requirements.
Requirements
- The minor must present a valid form of government ID. Examples include: drivers license, state ID card, birth certificate, or passport.
- A parent or legal guardian must accompany the minor during membership purchase. Photo ID verification and proof of relationship may be requested.
- Parking is required and must be purchased (with membership) at Member Services.
Services
- May utilize all spaces within the Rec Center.
- May participate in most programming offered through Campus Recreation and Wellness.
- Receives a Campus Recreation and Wellness membership ID card.
Facility Access
There are no limitations on times they can visit the Rec Center during normal operating hours
Age 5-15
Recreation and Wellness members may purchase a membership for minor dependents age 5-15. This membership has access and space restrictions.
Requirements
- Parent or guardian must have a valid Rec Center membership.
- A parent or legal guardian must remain within the same area of the facility and supervise minor members ages 5-15 at all times while in the Rec Center.
Services
- May use the track and court spaces.
- May participate in programs and services designated as open to minors.
Restrictions
- Not allowed in any fitness zone or on fitness equipment, per guidance from the University of Houston System.
- Minors are welcome to events specifically marked as family programs, and are not permitted to attend Group Fitness programs, Rec Sports events, or programs and special events for adults.
Facility Access
Minors aged 5 -15 are allowed daily during Family Hours from opening to 6 p.m. Space and equipment restrictions for minors ages 5-15 remain in place at all times.
Age 4 or Younger
Minors age 4 or younger do not require a membership. They may be present with a parent or legal guardian at no charge, but access restrictions apply.
Requirements
- A parent or legal guardian must remain within an arm’s reach of their child at all times.
- Parent or legal guardian may only use the track or court spaces with minors age 4 or younger.
- Strollers are only allowed on the track between the hours of opening – 5:00pm.
Restrictions
- Not allowed in any fitness zone, on fitness equipment, or at programming for adults.
- Not allowed to be carried or held on cardio or strength equipment.
- Not allowed to be left near a fitness zone or fitness equipment while adult uses the zone or equipment.
