Dr. William Powers

William Powers began teaching history in UHCL's Texas Department of Corrections Program at the University of Houston Clear Lake 1997, and in 1999 became the program's director. He has served in that capacity for more than 22 years. He has consulted with various higher education institutions who have sought to participate in correctional education and participated and chaired conferences and panels dealing with correctional education. William completed his Ph.D. at Texas A&M University in May 1993 in the field of 20th Century US History, specifically the petroleum industry. His dissertation, "Over A Barrel: Government Influence and Mergers and Acquisitions in the Petroleum Industry, The Case of Sun Oil Company, 1938-1989" is a macro-economic examination of a politically active Northeastern Petroleum conglomerate.

In his role as Adjunct Instructor Of History, Dr. Powers has taught an array of classes including US Since 1945, topics include U.S. Business History, The Politics of Oil and Oil Wars, The Cold War, and The Vietnam War; U.S. 1919-1945, including The Great Depression, World War II in Europe, U.S. and World War II; The Holocaust; US 1877-1919, including The South Since Reconstruction, The Gilded Age (The Rise of Industrial America); Civil War & Reconstruction at both graduate and undergraduate level, Modern Britain; HIST 1301-US To 1877; and HIST 1302-US Since 1877.

Evangelina Urdiales joined the university as an administrative assistant in November 2012 in the college of HSH advising office and was promoted to Academic Advisor for the TDCJ program in May 2016. She earned a Bachelors of Arts and Communications from Valparaiso University (2004) and a master's degree in liberal studies from Arizona State (2016).
