Earn your BS in Education with Early Childhood: PK-3 Certification while participating in a year-long Teacher Residency.
As a Resident Teacher, you will undergo a year of clinical teaching, gaining valuable classroom experience and mentorship to help you transition into becoming a full-time teacher. Upon successful completion of the program, you will receive preferential hiring and a service credit of one year at their cooperating district.

The goal of the PK-3 Teacher Residency Program is to train highly qualified early childhood educators to improve the academic and future success of young children in the Greater Houston area. The teacher residency offers a transformative teacher preparation experience that builds professional practice through a preservice clinical model guided by a high-quality mentor teacher and rooted in developmentally appropriate practice and culturally sustaining pedagogy.
Eligibility Requirements
- Enrolled in Early Childhood: PK-3 Certificate program or Early Childhood: PK-3/SPED Dual Certificate program.
- GPA of 3.0 in the last 60 hours of coursework.
- Must be accepted to the Teacher Education Program by January 1st, prior to the Fall Clinical I residency semester or May 1st for Spring Clinical Teaching I residency Semester.
- Be on track to complete all coursework, other than the PK-3 Methods block, prior to the Clinical I semester.
- Preference is given for passing PPR and STR TExES Exams prior to the Residency Year.
- Clear a state and national criminal background check.
- Strong work ethic, open to accepting and incorporating feedback, and a belief that all students can achieve.
