Success Through Education Program (STEP) Scholarships
Scholarship Application Window: February 1 - February 28
Scholarship will be allocated the next academic school year if awarded.
COE - STEP Undergraduate
Criteria
- Education Undergraduate major (accepted in the Teacher Education Program as a STEP participant)
- Minimum GPA of 3.0
- Full-time (12 or more hours) student accepted in the Teacher Education Program as a STEP participant. Must be in full time hours to receive scholarship.
- Financial Need: Will be a factor (you must submit a FAFSA to UHCL)
- Submit a one page essay that describes why you want to be a teacher, your professional goals, and your attributes which will inspire a love of learning and positively influence children's lives
How to Apply
- Log into E-Services
- Click on "Financial Aid" or "Admissions"
- Click on "Apply for UHCL Scholarships". Do not fill in any information at this point.
- Click "Search". Do not click on "Apply"
- Click on "Details" to view the criteria
- Make sure you meet the criteria of the scholarship before applying and prepare the required document
- Next go back and click "Apply". The aid year you are applying for is the latest of the academic year. Example: (Fall 2025/Spring 2026) Year "2026" would be.
- Answer the questions and upload your document
- You must have documentation prepared before you "Apply." Once you click on "Apply" and submit the scholarship application, you cannot go back to that specific scholarship.
- A confirmation will appear when the application is submitted
STEP - Success Through Education Program

- Minimum 2.5 overall GPA
- Undergraduate full time enrollment (12 hours), Graduate full time enrollment (9 hours)

Criteria
- Must be a student in the Success Through Education Program (STEP) taking internship II during the academic year
- Minimum GPA of 3.0
- Preference given to first generation college students
- Financial Need: Will be a factor (you must submit a FAFSA to UHCL)
- Applicant must submit a 1-2 page essay that describes what the future teacher will do in his/her classroom to foster and inspire a love of reading and learning

Merit Scholarship
Awarded during each Lunch and Learn event:
- Criteria/Selection:
- Top two highest GPA of RSVP'd students
- Scholarship amount: $500.00 each
- Program Participation/Attendance:
- Two randomly awarded each Lunch and Learn event
- Scholarship amount: $500.00
