Fine Arts, Right Here in Our Community

Art is a universal language that transcends borders, and some of the best work in the area can be found on campus. At the UHCL Art Gallery, the exhibitions are part of a vibrant local art landscape that appeals to a broad audience, regardless of their previous knowledge of art or art history.

Art Gallery events are educational and entertaining, and exhibition preview receptions are modeled after Houston's gallery or museum openings, complete with refreshments and adult beverages served to create a relaxing, social environment. All are invited to attend a wide range of programs designed to highlight artists and their work.

Parking for Patrons

Parking for Art Gallery patrons is available in UHCL's Visitor Lot R. Parking in this lot requires the display of a temporary visitor's permit, which can be purchased at the kiosk located near the entrance to the lot OR by texting "UHCLLOTR" to 25023. (Message and data rates may apply.)

Artist's Reception:

This exhibition features a collective of Texas artists offering a unique perspective. It explores what artmaking might look like within the confines of the strict regulations, privileged access, and physical walls of a Texas penitentiary.

The UHCL Art Gallery highlights the work of our students and alumni from the Transforming Lives by Degrees program, which offers a BS in Behavioral Science, a BA in Humanities, and an MA in Humanities. At Ramsey Unit, some students have limited access to a craft shop, where they can create artwork and engage in healthy outlets alongside their studies.

These stories invite us to reflect on the power of education and the potential for change. Through their work and art, these individuals share their journeys, struggles, and aspirations, offering a glimpse into lives that, once written off, now shine with possibility.

Light refreshments to be served alongside beverages generously donated by Galveston Bay Brewing. (Must be 21+ to partake.)
