UHCL's School Library and Information Science Program focuses solely on school librarianship. Faculty have a long history in school librarianship and consist of former district library supervisors and National Board Certified teachers. This program is designed for passionate people eager to support student learning by:  

• Leading elementary, middle, or high school teachers in the integration of technology;
• Collaborating with teachers to develop lessons in all curricular areas;
• Helping students become information-literate;
• Teaching students about the ethical use of resources; and
• Implementing and promoting school-wide literacy programs, all of which impact student learning.  

This degree will prepare you to:  

• Analyze and identify the needs of diverse communities of users;
• Assist and educate users to resources;
• Develop and manage collections of information resources;
• Deploy information technologies in effective and innovative ways; and
• Effectively evaluate and use research.
