UHCL's College of Education provides an affordable solution to those seeking an online option for acquiring an M.S. in School Library and Information Science. This program merges both quality with convenience, and is accredited by the Council for the Accreditation of Educator Preparation (CAEP). The program is designed for those with a passion for leading elementary, middle, or high school teachers in the integration of technology and learning; collaborating with teachers to develop lessons in all curricular areas; helping students become information-literate; teaching students about the ethical use of resources; and implementing and promoting school-wide literacy programs.

The student-centered program provides a blend of academic and fieldwork experiences, aligned with state and national certification standards to address each candidate's individual career goals.

This 33 credit-hour program will train you to become the literacy and technology expert your school needs.

You can complete this degree in just 18 months by taking 3 courses each semester during consecutive fall, spring, and summer semesters.

Our course offerings are designed to maximize individual engagement through relevant, collaborative, and interactive instruction. You will become familiar with the theories and practices of library and information science through the study of the foundations, principles, and ideas of the discipline. Additionally, you will master the management, selection of children’s and young adult literature, cataloging and classification, reference and bibliography, and the latest training in electronic media and technology.

Our alums hail as school librarians in school districts across Texas including Houston ISD, Clear Creek ISD, Katy ISD and Pearland ISD.

The online M.S. in School Library and Information Science program will prepare you to be an inspired and effective school librarian, impacting student learning.

Upon completion of this program, you will also have met the requirements to be recommended for the Texas school librarian certification, and you will have the option of adding Texas Master Technology Teacher certification to your program by completing a few additional courses.
