Physics B.S.
Gain a Solid Foundation in Physics
Ready to take your love of physics to the next level? Consider a Bachelor of Science degree from the University of Houston-Clear Lake! The coursework for this program in the College of Science and Engineering offers you the opportunity to master the principles of physics, as well as gain valuable insights into understanding current issues in the scientific world. Find your specific area of interest, develop your capacity to solve problems that could transform lives, and take advantage of the unique research opportunities UHCL affords students through its proximity and collaborative relationship with NASA and related allied aerospace industry leaders.
Explore the Intersections of Physics and Engineering
The greater Houston area is a thriving center for many technologically advanced industries such as aerospace, petrochemical and biomedicine. The demand for professionals with a degree in physics is always high, and trending dramatically upward. By combining physics with engineering, students can learn how to solve problems like a physicist and create like an engineer. That's why we offer a sub-plan in Engineering Physics, a more interdisciplinary plan specifically designed for students interested in pursuing a career in engineering. Students in this program take courses in Physics, Mechanical Engineering and Computer Engineering. Graduates of the program are eligible to pursue the Professional Engineer Certification.
Explore the Intersections of Physics and Computing
Many problems today can only be solved by computer simulation. These require someone with a knowledge of both fundamental physics and computer science. Our sub-plan in Computational Physics combines both skills. Students take courses that teach them how to understand and model physical systems. Our faculty do advanced computational research in areas such as cosmology, materials science and plasma physics so students also get the opportunity to apply what they learn to cutting edge fields.
In addition to the general physics program, within the degree, you can choose from two specializations:
- Computational Physics
- Engineering Physics
