Admitted Transfer Student
Soar at UHCL
We are glad you decided to transfer your past college credits to University of Houston-Clear Lake!
To start your UHCL experience off smoothly, we have established the Transfer Advising Program (TAP) which requires students to connect with an advisor in the Transfer Advising Office prior to enrolling in their first semester of classes at UHCL.
- All new transfer students with 30 or more credit hours, earned after high school graduation, will receive a mandatory transfer advising hold after securing admission to UHCL for the upcoming semester.
- Upon completion of the Step 1 of the transfer advising requirement, the advising hold is adjusted and students are able to register for their first semester classes once Open Registration begins.
The Two-Step Advising process begins soon after the release of the class schedule:
- For students admitted for the summer and fall semesters, advising begins in April.
- For students admitted for the spring semester, advising begins in November.
Transfer Students admitted to UHCL for the upcoming semester should review the Two-Step Process below. Step 1 of the process will be available in mid-March for students admitted for Summer or Fall, and mid-October for those admitted for Spring.
Step 1
Access and review our Transfer Advising instructional video for new transfers. In the instructional video, we will teach you how to navigate important student resources. Topics covered include:
- How to locate the Student Center within the UHCL E-Services system.
- How to access and understand your online degree audit, called the "Advisement Report." This tool incorporates your past college and test credits, and also displays what you have remaining to complete your bachelor's degree at UHCL.
- How to select and enroll in classes directly from the My Advisement Report.
- Other tips and important information to assist with your transition to UHCL.
- Complete the brief survey at the end of the video, so you can move forward to complete the advising and registration process (Step 2).
Admitted students receive the link to the video to their personal e-mail address on file 5 business days after admission to UHCL is confirmed.
Please call or email Transfer Advising at 281-283-3068 or transfer@uhcl.edu if you require any assistance accessing the instructional video. Reminder, the video is recorded after mid-March for Summer and Fall admits and after mid-October for Spring admitted transfer students.
Step 2
The Advising and Registration process:
- The transfer advising team receives your survey results and adjusts your advising hold so you can sign-up for classes during Open Registration.
- They will upload you into their appointment system. Once uploaded into the system, this will automatically generate an email to your UHCL Outlook account with a unique scheduling link to our appointment calendar.
- Transfer Advising appointments are available in-person in the Transfer Advising Office (SSCB 1.206) or virtually over Zoom.
- Once the appointment is scheduled, the team will send instructions 24 hours prior to the appointment with additional instructions.
- During the appointment, the advisor will guide you to login in order to locate the Student Center in order to access your Advisement Report to select your classes and build your shopping cart.
- The advisor will provide you with a Candidate Plan of Study (CPS) which is a more concise degree planning tool for your major. They will utilize the CPS in conjunction with the Advisement Report, and the Degree Map within the Undergraduate Catalog for your major to help you select and enroll for your most recommended classes to ease your transition to the university.
Before Your Appointment
- Log in to E-Services to clear all holds in order to be able to register for classes.
- If under the age of 22, upload your proof of bacterial meningitis vaccination through your Student Center in E-Services.
- Send your final official transcripts and test scores to the Office of Admissions.
We look forward to assisting you with your transition to UHCL, and advocating for your transfer credits!

You can use the "Lookup UHCL Username Tool" to locate your username. Note: to utilize this you must also know your 7 digit UHCL ID number which was likely emailed to you by Admissions about 5-10 business days after you initially submitted your application through Apply Texas.

Yes! It is recommended to meet with an advisor in the Transfer Advising Office soon after you are admitted and Open Registration has begun in order sign-up for the classes you need for your first semester. We highly recommend you set up a time to meet with a transfer advisor as soon as possible, as our classes fill up fast and may not be available to you if you wait to sign-up.
To satisfy New Student Orientation (NSO), you must complete the Pre-Orientation online module, and also attend the 5 hour in-person session here on campus. Registering for classes is not associated with NSO.
Newly admitted students who have been admitted into a program at UHCL at Pearland, majoring in Healthcare Administration or Healthcare Services, or UHCL Online, will follow the same standards noted above for the transfer advising program.
We do offer virtual appointments over Zoom for students who are unable to attend an in-person advising appointment on campus.
Students should receive an e-mail from the Office of the Registrar indicating when the schedule is open, and the registration dates for upcoming semesters. For the spring semester, registration typically begins in mid-November; and, summer and fall semester registration typically begins in mid-April. The Academic Calendar can help you with locating important registration and payment dates.
During the advising session we will provide you with important information to help with your transition to UHCL. We will review your transfer courses, demonstrate how your courses apply toward your major and other degree requirements, and then recommend classes for the upcoming semester to ensure you are enrolling in the most appropriate for your major here at UHCL.
Please contact us at transfer@uhcl.edu or call the Transfer Advising Office at 281-283-3068. Our staff will help you explore alternative options that would work best for you to complete your advising session.
