The Quality Enhancement Plan (QEP) is the component of the accreditation process that reflects and affirms the commitment of the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools Commission on Colleges (SACSCOC) to the enhancement of the quality of higher education and to the proposition that student learning is at the heart of the mission of all institutions of higher learning.

The University of Houston-Clear Lake selected Applied Critical Thinking for Lifelong Learning and Adaptability (pdf) as its first QEP topic. Faculty incorporated the best practices advocated by the Foundation for Critical Thinking for teaching ACT skills into one or more of their courses; incorporated ACT learning outcomes into one or more of their courses; and identified learning outcomes and best practices on the course syllabi of the ACT courses they taught.

QEP Steering Committee

Purpose

The QEP Steering Committee is composed of four subcommittees that oversee the development and refinement of the QEP topic through collaboration with university stakeholders and that address the required criteria:

  1. Needs Assessment Subcommittee - Includes a process identifying key issues emerging from institutional assessment
  2. Assessment Subcommittee -Focuses on learning outcomes and/or the environment supporting student learning and accomplishing the mission of the institution. Identifies goals and a plan to assess their achievement.
  3. Implementation Subcommittee - Demonstrates institutional capability for the initiation, implementation, and completion of the QEP.
  4. Marketing and Promotion Subcommittee - Includes broad-based involvement of institutional constituencies in the development and proposed implementation of the QEP.
