Research Projects

Most recently, Dr. Andrews’ research within problem conceptualization and engagement focused upon developing new theories of engagement and conceptualization as represented by her publication of a framework for determining the engagement levels of fiero and flow (Andrews, Bradley & Crawford, 2020). Her past research in domain language as a supporting problem conceptualization method has direct application to architecture design processes and reuse of design knowledge. This research includes a focus upon software architecture design specification and the issues surrounding the difficulties involved, such as the erosion and drift of systems from the intended architecture and how design constructs can be utilized to mediate such problems. Recently her work focused even more tightly upon problem-solving within the realm of erosion and drift of architectural design (Whiting & White, 2020; Andrews & Sheppard, 2020).

Within the domain of problem conceptualization, and the development of frameworks for such, her work has resulted in the development of a framework for the definition and conceptualization of the concept of “fiero,” a heretofore unmeasured engagement attribute (Andrews, Bradley & Crawford, 2020), as well as the definition of a process for problem conceptualization (Andrews, under review) that provides a method of improving the development of effective and innovative solutions. Extensions to her work in problem conceptualization and engagement frameworks have recently been integrated into new learning theories of engagement and conceptualization (Crawford & Andrews, in press, under review; Crawford, White & Wallace, 2019, Crawford, Wallace, & White 2018) as well as integrated into applications and theories of impactful learning and communities of instructional engagement (Crawford, Newsum, White & Wallace, in press a, in press b).

Of further note is the intersection of her working with gaming engagement as applied to the field of eSports resulting in a forthcoming edited book publication “Pathways and Opportunities into the Business of eSports” and her appointment as editor-in-chief of the International Journal of eSports Research (IJER).
