My Heartfelt Thanks and a Look to the Future
September 24, 2018
Dear Faculty, Staff and Students:
Thank you for your gracious support of our investiture ceremony and all supporting events – your kind words, your presence, your labors, all you did to make our guests welcome, and importantly, all you have done this past year to prepare our university for its next chapter.
Looking toward the future, I would like to turn our focus on our strategic planning. To paraphrase my comments at the investiture, we are establishing specific objectives around three overarching goals:
- To transform more individual potential into much needed human capital for our region. We must develop the knowledge, skills and dispositional qualities of students so
that the quality of their lives and the communities in which they live improve for
the betterment of all.
- To provide effective educational programs and activities that develop curious, competent,
competitive, confident and caring individuals who are ready to assume meaningful roles
in their community. This goal is a very challenging one, requiring UHCL’s faculty and staff to monitor
and adapt curriculum and experiential learning opportunities to the evolving nature
of relationships, work, society, and the environment.
- To multiply resources in order to deliver a second-to-none educational experience. This requires that we increase faculty and staff development, maintain up-to-date facilities and equipment, and offer enhanced academic programs and experiential learning opportunities.
I ask you to keep these objectives in mind as we work to fulfill this mission – and to remind you of a truth you already know: We work better when we work together.
Sincerely,
Ira K. Blake, Ph.D.
President
