Mark, A. Denney, VP Administration and Finance
September 10, 2018
Dear Faculty, Staff and Students:
I am pleased to announce that after an extensive national search, Mark A. Denney will serve as the next Vice President for Administration and Finance at University of Houston-Clear Lake. He assumes the role effective Oct. 1.
Mr. Denney comes to us from Southern Oregon University in Ashland, Ore., where he has served as associate vice president of finance since 2014, and as interim chief information officer since February of this year. At Southern Oregon University, he served on the university's Executive Council, Budget Committee, Finance Committee, and University Planning Board. He worked to establish university priorities and budgetary guidance, targets, and metrics to ensure achievement of university goals. He also provided strategic financial and business analysis in support of university-wide priorities and goals.
Mr. Denney was also instrumental in growing Southern Oregon University’s operational reserves – from 3.5 percent to over 12 percent – during a period of enrollment decline.
In previous employment, he was senior budget analyst at Mt. Hood Community College in Gresham, Ore. He also held key financial positions in two California public school systems, and was a financial management officer for the U.S. Marine Corps.
Mr. Denney holds a Master of Business Administration from Portland State University and a Bachelor of Science in Financial Management and Control from Oregon State University in Corvallis, Ore.
We look forward to Mr. Denney bringing his experience – and dedication – to UHCL.
I would like to thank Dr. A. Glen Houston and the members of the search committee for their outstanding service during the search process.
Please join me in welcoming Mr. Denney to UHCL.
Sincerely,
Ira K. Blake, Ph.D.
President
