Family Care Resources

Lactation Room

A lactation room is available in the Recreation and Wellness Center, Wellness Room 253. The room provides a clean, private environment to comfortably express milk during work hours. A sink with water is available; however, equipment, storage and refrigeration are not provided. The room is open on a first-come-first-serve basis. 

Child Care

University of Houston-Clear Lake recognizes that offering childcare resources is an important benefit to our faculty, staff and students with children. Work/Life Services is happy to help you get started in your search for child care. Some local childcare centers offer discounts to UHCL employees. 

As a reminder, our Employee Assistance Plan can assist you in searching for licensed child care facilities in the area based on your needs and preferences. Log in to the Deer Oaks EAP website (Username & Password = UHCL) to access this resource.

Caregiving 

Work/Life Services provides information for community resources to help you care for an aging relative and identify services and support groups for caregivers.  The following information can help you get started.

Care.com

Care.com helps families looking for a care provider for children, seniors, pets, or even homes, can post job descriptions and/or search an extensive database of providers and care providers can post their profiles highlighting their skills and expertise, while also searching jobs that have been posted.

Basic Membership is free and allows families to view and post jobs, receive newsletters full of expert tips and access a wealth of content on all things care-related. Premium Members, who pay a monthly, quarterly or annual fee, enjoy all these services, plus the ability to view contact details, purchase background checks, and access references for providers.

Lotsa Helping Hands

When supporting someone in need, Lotsa Helping Hands makes it easy for people to know what to do and when to do it by providing an online resource to coordinate efforts. From the Help Calendar to the Well Wishes Wall, Lotsa Helping Hands brings together caregivers and volunteers through online Communities to organize care and assistance for the caregiver; those facing a medical crisis; military and veterans families; new parents; parents of children with special needs; a child’s school/classroom; and community or faith-based groups. Use Lotsa Helping Hands to deliver meals, coordinate dropping off diapers/supplies, provide rides, to send care packages, or just to coordinate visits to offer emotional support to the person or family in need.

Sheltering Arms/Baker Ripley Senior Services

Baker Ripley Senior Services is a nonprofit organization in Houston committed to the health and well-being of older adults and their family caregivers. They promote the dignity and independence of older adults through service, advocacy, and support for caregivers. They serve seniors and their caregivers through Home Care Services, Care Management, Adult Day Center Services, Caregiver Support Services, Volunteer Services, and Senior Activity and Education Services. Take Time Texas

Take Time Texas provides information to help caregivers and respite providers take time, refresh, recharge and return to giving care. If you care for someone of any age with a chronic medical condition or disability, help is available through the Texas Lifespan Respite Care Program and the Texas Respite Coordination Center.

The website provides a statewide database of respite providers that caregivers can search to find nonprofit, commercial, faith-based, and governmental respite providers; educational materials and resources to help caregivers and providers resolve issues and find caregiving information; and resources to help respite providers including outreach materials, information on best practices and training tools.
