Electrofishing
EIH is equipped with a wide range of electrofishing equipment allowing EIH researchers to sample small wadeable creeks and streams to large brackish rivers.
EIH's backpack electrofishing unit is a Smith-Root LR-24 Electrofisher, the most advanced backpack electrofisher on the market today. This unit has a peak output power of 2800 watts and has precise control over output settings. This unit works in a conductivity up to 2,000 uS/cm.
EIH also owns three Smith-Root generator powered pulsator (GPP) electrofishing models: the 2.5 GPP, 5.0 GPP, and 9.0 GPP. The 2.5 and 5.0 can be used for shore-side or in-boat operation. EIH is equipped with a Smith-Root tote barge, as well as a canoe and scanoe that can be used to sample relatively shallow streams as a towed barge setup. In addition EIH has a 14' weldcraft tiller that can be equipped with the 2.5 or 5.0 GPP to shock moderate depth rivers and streams. Finally, EIH has an 18' electroshock boat outfitted with the 9.0 GPP and is excellent at sampling deeper waters in a wide range of conductivities.
