New Student Checklist

Apply for admission! You will not be awarded financial aid until you are officially accepted into a degree-seeking program at UHCL. The Office of Admissions is more than happy to assist.

New Freshman? Apply for the New Hawk Scholarship if you qualify.

If you are going to be a graduate student (resident or non-resident) or a non-resident undergraduate student, complete the Hawk Scholars Scholarship application. If your first semester will be in the summer or fall, apply before May 15. If your first semester will be in the spring, apply before November 1.

If awarded an Automatic Transfer Scholarship, we will send you a terms and conditions form via U.S. Mail. Make sure you submit this back to us. You can submit this information to us via email, fax, or snail mail. You can see our contact information to the right.

Complete the Free Application for Federal Student Aid, FAFSA. The priority deadline is January 15. If you complete the form after January 15, it is still okay. UHCL's school code is 011711.

Explore your UHCL email. You should check your UHCL email account at least once a week. You can forward your UHCL email to another email address, if you wish.

If we request additional information from you, submit it to our office ASAP. We will request all additional information via your UHCL email account. You can submit information to us via email, fax, or snail mail. You can see our contact information to the right.

Once you receive your award notice via your UHCL email, accept your award on E-services. Make sure you read the messages concerning your awards!

If you are awarded Federal Direct Stafford loans and you accept them, complete the Direct Loan Master Promissory Note and Entrance Counseling

Don't forget! Monitor your UHCL email account.

Notify us about any outside scholarships you are receiving. You can just send us an email. Tell us who the scholarship is coming from and the amount. Be sure to include your UHCL Student ID number on all emails!

Review your refund preference with BankMobile Disbursements, a technology solution, powered by BMTX, Inc.

If you consider withdrawing from school for any reason, let us know. You may owe some money back to the school for withdrawing. We can advise you on this.

Starting Oct. 1, you can complete the FAFSA for the next school year.

In February, apply for the Current and Continuing Student Scholarships.
