Our seasons cover nearly all musical genres, featuring nationally and internationally recognized artists from classical to country, Broadway to blues, and family-friendly to funk. Bayou Theater brings the best live performers across all genres directly to YOU. 

Theater History

Bayou Theater was originally constructed in 1976 to be the primary performance venue for University of Houston-Clear Lake. It also served as the classroom and performance space for the university’s dance and theater programs.

In 1992, those performance programs ended, and Bayou Theater became a rental space utilized by the Clear Lake community.

In 2015, UHCL President William A. Staples recognized Bayou Theater as an under-utilized campus resource and started an initiative to revitalize the space. Since 2016, Bayou Theater has experienced a rebirth with a new mission and vision to be the leading performance arts space in Clear Lake.
