Self-paced CertPREP courseware for IT Specialist - Cybersecurity provides a foundation for many key security paradigms, terminology, and mindset. Successful candidates will develop a keen awareness of the importance of security and the threats to a business when security procedures are not followed. They will develop the investigative and implementation skills necessary to succeed in the field and have an aptitude and desire to learn more and a willingness to teach others. They will become familiar with the toolset at a fundamental level and can assist in threat mitigation and incident response.

These skills will help prepare you for entry-level cybersecurity-related careers.

Duration

Approximately 4 days of training. Each learner will progress at their own rate.

Audience

Designed for learners interested in obtaining a working-level proficiency with cybersecurity. After completing this course, you will be able to perform the basic responsibilities of an entry-level professional in the IT field.

Prerequisites

  • General operating system knowledge (Windows, MacOS, Linux)
  • Familiarity with connecting to a wireless network with common commercial components
  • Familiarity with setting up a simple home network
  • Required course materials: Self-paced Pearson CertPREP IT
  • Specialist Cybersecurity (INF-105) courseware with 180-day access.

After completing the CertPREP courseware, it's time to put your knowledge to the test!
 
The IT Specialist Cybersecurity exam voucher allows you to validate your new skills and take the next step on your journey to becoming a tech professional.

The IT Specialist Cybersecurity exam maximum time length is 50 minutes to complete the exam. The estimated number of questions that will be on your IT Specialist Cybersecurity exam is between 40 and 50 questions.  

Exam voucher will be provided upon satisfactory completion of the prep course.

Lesson 1: Essential Security Principles, Incomplete section

  • Skill 1: Define essential security principles.
  • Skill 2: Explain common threats and vulnerabilities.
  • Skill 3: Explain access management principles.
  • Skill 4: Explain encryption methods and applications.

Lesson 2: Basic Network Security Concepts

  • Skill 1: Describe TCP/IP protocol vulnerabilities.
  • Skill 2: Explain how network addresses impact network security.
  • Skill 3: Describe network infrastructure and technologies.
  • Skill 4: Set up a secure wireless SoHo network.
  • Skill 5: Implement secure access technologies.

Lesson 3: Endpoint Security Concepts

  • Skill 1: Describe operating system security concepts.
  • Skill 2: Demonstrate familiarity with appropriate endpoint tools that gather security assessment information.
  • Skill 3: Verify that endpoint systems meet security policies and standards.
  • Skill 4: Implement software and hardware updates.
  • Skill 5: Interpret system logs.
  • Skill 6: Demonstrate familiarity with malware removal.

Lesson 4: Vulnerability Assessment and Risk Management, Incomplete section

  • Skill 1: Explain vulnerability management.
  • Skill 2: Use threat intelligence techniques to identify potential network vulnerabilities.
  • Skill 3: Explain risk management.
  • Skill 4: Explain the importance of disaster recovery and business continuity planning.

Lesson 5: Incident Handling, Incomplete section

  • Skill 1: Monitor security events and know when escalation is required.

Instructions

Please use your UHCL email to register for the course. On August 12 you will receive an email with instruction on accesing the course, completion substantiation, and receiving the voucher for the exam.

Instructions for Redeeming Your Exam Vouchers

To redeem your exam vouchers online, please follow the steps below: 

  1. Go to www.PearsonVUE.com

  2. Select the certification program for which you purchased an exam voucher

  3. Choose the "Schedule a Test" button on the right side of your screen
    Once on the payment screen, click the "Add Discount" button beneath total due

  4. Enter your voucher number in the "voucher or Promotion Code:" field and click "Apply"

  5. Finally, click the "Next" button

Exams must be scheduled and taken at UHCL Testing Center on or before the expiration date of the voucher(s).
