in the public sector. A Bachelor of Science in Public Administration from University
of Houston-Clear Lake's College of Human Sciences and Humanities provides a rigorous
education for students seeking preparation for a wide continuum of career paths. These
careers range from various positions in civil service at the city, state, and federal
government; law; criminal justice; social service; business firms; arts and other
nonprofit organizations; campaign management; survey research; journalism; and college
teaching. The Public Administration program offers a Political Science track and a
Public Service Leadership track to allow students to structure their plans of study
that reflect their career and/or graduate education goals.
If you've already fulfilled your first 60-hour requirements (whether as a transfer
student or in UHCL classrooms), coursework for the Public Administration degree is
available online, making this program flexible enough to allow you to get your degree
while meeting all of life's demands.
Learn to Serve the Public
Careers in the areas of government, politics, nonprofits, and business call for creative
and effective problem solvers who can evaluate the substance of policy issues from
various perspectives and apply their knowledge and skills to tackle the varied and
multiple challenges in the field. The multidisciplinary course content focuses on
cross-functional roles and collaboration across disciplines, including government,
business, and social and human sciences to help students address the complex challenges
encountered in politics and public service. Graduates of this program are educated
to take dynamic leadership roles in emergency management, firefighting, urban planning
and positions at the local, state, or federal level. Students will develop a sound
theoretical and practical framework to promote leadership, conflict resolution skills,
budgeting and finance.
