Post-Baccalaureate Teacher Certification Plan Social Studies 7-12

Prepare Students to Become Informed Citizens

Second-career teachers have the potential to present information to students from a new perspective. That's why University of Houston-Clear Lake's Post-Baccalaureate Teacher Certification Plan in Social Studies 7-12 is a great option if you're exploring a new career in which you can play a central role in making social studies relevant and interesting to students in middle and high school. Covering topics related to sociology, economics and government can illustrate to students the importance of the social institutions in our society and the role they play as citizens.

Take Your Passion for Learning, Get Great Teaching Skills, and Inspire Students

Your coursework at UHCL's College of Education will cover academic specialization topics such as world geography and colonial America, and the education core requirement courses you'll study include methods in secondary social studies and theories of educational psychology. When you've completed your classes, you'll have the instruction and hands-on student internship experience you need to make you a creative, imaginative teacher who has the skills and passion to inspire students in solving complex problems, thinking critically and communicating effectively.

Although it is not necessary for students holding at least a bachelor's degree and seeking initial teacher certification to pursue a second bachelor's degree, those who wish to do so must meet the university's lower-level requirements in addition to the requirements for both teacher certification and the second degree, unless such requirements were met through the completion of the first bachelor's degree. These lower-level requirements are described in the Core section of the catalog.
