Post-Baccalaureate Teacher Certification Plan Core Subjects EC-6 with Bilingual Supplemental
Find Your Second Career in the Classroom
If you started your first professional career in another field and you’re interested in a change, your focus on teaching reading to students can be particularly rewarding. University of Houston-Clear Lake offers a variety of post-baccalaureate teacher certification programs that offer excellent courses and the support you need to become a fully certified classroom teacher. Upon completing the Post-Baccalaureate Teacher Certification Plan Core Subjects EC-6 with Bilingual Supplement, you'll acquire the skills to address the gap that currently exists for bilingual students. Second-career teachers understand the authentic application of learning, bring a deeper level of experience and perspective to the classroom, and are able to motivate students and inspire other teachers. School districts seek qualified, passionate teachers with varied life experiences to challenge students to become great future leaders.
Put Your Life Skills to Work for Children
This certification will equip you to teach all core subjects in an elementary school classroom, and it will help you open the door to academic success for more than 10 percent of public school students who are identified as English Language Learners. Your coursework will prepare you for certification and to become an effective, creative classroom teacher with the ability to inspire culturally diverse students. You’ll demonstrate the organizational and communication skills you acquired in your previous career to students and parents. No two days will be the same, and you’ll see you have entered the most interesting, challenging career of your life.
Although it is not necessary for students holding at least a bachelor's degree and seeking initial teacher certification to pursue a second bachelor's degree, those who wish to do so must meet the university's lower-level requirements in addition to the requirements for both teacher certification and the second degree, unless such requirements were met through the completion of the first bachelor's degree. These lower-level requirements are described in the Core section of the catalog.Request InfoHow to ApplyVisit
