Already recognized by the National Strength and Conditioning Association for the content and practicality of its sports science specialization, the program now offers a specialization in public health. UHCL's Exercise and Health Science program will help you advance your career in a variety of growing and stable industries. Our previous graduates have attained positions as sport scientists, strength and conditioning professionals, coaches or exercise fitness specialists at the highest levels achievable in the industry, including with the NBA, NFL, MLB, NCAA and NASA. Many graduates  have taken advantage of their laboratory skills and practical training to work in research settings or to complete PhD's in a variety of biomedical sciences.

You can choose from concentrations in

  • Sports science
  • Public health
  • Clinical exercise physiology

The program's public health specialization offers formal training in disease prevention, epidemiology, and health systems and policy.

With an Exercise and Health Sciences Master of Science degree, you'll gain the skills you need to become the kind of expert that employers are seeking to lead the ever-changing health care industry.


Admission Requirements

  • Exercise and Health Sciences M.S.
  • Admission Deadline
    • Fall: April 1
    • Spring: October 1
  • Application

    A standard university application is required.

    Documents for admission are submitted after completion of the application. All required documents are due by the program application deadline.

  • Requirements
    • GRE Scores Not Required: The GRE requirement will automatically be removed after successful submission of the admission application.
    • Official Transcripts: Students should submit official transcripts from every college or university attended to the University of Houston-Clear Lake, Office of Admissions or International Admissions.
      • Recommended cumulative GPA of 3.0 or higher.
      • Please review New Student Admissions in the Graduate Catalog under Transcripts and Records Information to learn how to submit an official college transcript to UHCL.

    Required Supplemental Documents:

    The following documents must be submitted with your admissions application or by using your E-services account for admission to the University of Houston-Clear Lake as a graduate student. All E-services account(s) are generated after an application is submitted and processed.
    1. CV/Resume: describing previous education, work experience, relevant coursework, relevant volunteer activities, any honors, published papers, or other relevant life experiences. Should include names and contact information of 3 references that can speak to applicant's academic and/or professional experience.
    2. Statement of Purpose (approximately 500 words): describing the applicant's experience and interest in Exercise & Health Sciences in general, and specifically the program at UHCL. Include any relevant information that will help program faculty know you better. 
  • Admission Review Process 
    • Students begin the program in the fall or spring semesters.
    • Decisions are sent to applicants by November 15 (spring) and June 1 (fall).
    • Applicants who apply after the deadline may be given consideration to the extent that positions for the program are not yet filled.
