Kicking off the Women and Gender Studies Program's yearlong programming around the theme of suff/e/rage, in which the program will investigate how to channel anger into productive change, public intellectual and advocate Demita Frazier's keynote address will address how to build coalitions around issues such as reproductive rights advocacy in locations, nationally and globally, where those protections are being eroded.
Frazier will highlight the historical and contemporary organizing of women of color around reproductive rights to protect their bodily autonomy, from the Combahee River Collective to current movement work. She will also tailor her talk to our Houston community, envisioning strategies to develop cultural competencies to sustain a truly intersectional, international reproductive rights movement that can thrive even in localities with stark challenges.
There will be a roundtable discussing current WGST Program faculty research following Frazier's talk. Hosted by: HSH's Women and Gender Studies Program and Sponsored by The Office of Global Learning and Strategy
