Emergency Assistance
Hawk Emergency Fund
Assistance is available to currently enrolled UHCL students experiencing unforeseen, unavoidable, and extenuating emergency circumstances which potentially cause difficulties enrolling or remaining enrolled in classes. Review criteria and apply for the Hawk Emergency Fund.
Absence Notification Due to Emergency
Requests for planned absences should be submitted to instructors as soon as the conflict becomes known (before the anticipated absence). Unexpected absences should be communicated to the instructor before the upcoming class meeting, or as soon as possible afterward, with an explanation of why the notice could not be sent before the class meeting.
However, there are times when students may not be able to provide notice of absence, due to an emergency. The Dean of Students Office can provide an absence notification letter to instructors, if the student is unable to request an excused absence from instructors due to hospitalization or a personal emergency.
Although the Dean of Students Office cannot excuse students from classes, we will notify instructors and the academic college to inform the student is experiencing an emergency. Please know that we will ask for documentation verifying the emergency, and the reason the student is not able to communicate directly with instructors. If there are any issues obtaining documentation, please inform the Dean of Students Office. Request an absence notification letter.
Basic Needs Assistance
School and everyday life can often be challenging and overwhelming. Students facing non-emergency basic needs hardships can reach out to the Center for Student Advocacy and Community (CSAC) for support. CSAC connects students with community services and on-campus resources that may assist with food, housing, healthcare (physical and mental), transportation, technology, childcare, graduation reglia, and more. See a full list of resources and request CSAC basic needs assistance.
